Meet the CinnaTeam
Every day, we commit to supporting, encouraging, and listening to our community's breastfeeding concerns.
In 2015, we aimed to increase breastfeeding rates among Black/African American women at the PHFE WIC Program. We created support circles that extended beyond our WIC services to provide encouragement and a safe space to chat about historical feeding practices, perceptions of breastfeeding, familial feeding experiences, and the health benefits of breastfeeding. We discuss interesting topics that spark conversations about maternal and postpartum health, support systems, and cultural beliefs while enjoying nutritious foods.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, our amazing facilitators, most of whom are Certified Lactation Educators and Lactation Consultants, have shown unwavering dedication in leading our virtual support circles.
Throughout the years, we've learned and adapted to the needs of our participants. To that end, we have created a non-traditional WIC center called CinnaMoms Crenshaw, located on Obama Blvd and Crenshaw. This space is for our moms to Nest, Rest, and Connect with others while receiving their WIC services.
***Special thanks to our Breastfeeding Project Specialist and creator of the name CinnaMoms, Rhonda Clayton, CLE, for her dedication to the project.***
